Srinagar, Dec 27 (KNO): Despite the severe cold gripping Kashmir during the ongoing Chillai Kalan, the children in the rural part of Sopore in north Kashmir are proving that cricket knows no boundaries, even in the harshest period of winters. In Haritar, a village located about 6 kilometers from the Apple town Sopore, children, doning Pheran, were seen enthusiastically playing cricket on the frozen ice, amidst the temperatures plummeting below freezing — the region is experiencing intense cold, causing water sources like taps and pipelines to freeze, and even parts of famous Dal and Wular lakes have turned into solid sheets of ice. However, the bone-chilling temperatures have not dampened the spirits of the young cricket enthusiasts. With frozen fields underfoot, the children’s passion for the game remains unshaken, speaking of the resilience and love for the sport in Kashmir’s rural part, the children were finding joy in the icy ground, creating memories. “I’ve never seen anything like this before,” said a 12-year-old boy, who was playing cricket. “It’s cold, but we don’t mind. The game is what matters.” Another child added, “Even though our hands freeze, cricket is life. The cold is just part of the game.” While many are finding it difficult to cope with the harsh weather, including the freezing of water sources, these youngsters continue to find joy and unity in their game. Elderly villagers, who gather around the icy turf while expressing pride in the children's determination, say the cold might freeze everything around them, but these children’s spirit is unbreakable. They at the same time said that, children should remain cautious, as this may have the adverse as well—(KNO)
